What does tutoring look like?

We offer a range of tutoring programmes, all of which are differentiated to precisely meet the needs of the young person we are working with. Depending on the complexity of a young person’s requirements, we work with them from 6 weeks up to a year or beyond.

Young people engage with a tutor with a specific goal in mind, such as working towards an examination, catching up on gaps in learning milestones or they may need the consistency of formal learning whilst they await a school placement.

Once referred, we carefully match the tutor and tutee to find exactly the right person to meet their needs. During the initial meet up the young person and tutor set out their objectives, and weekly attendance and progress checks ensure they achieve their aims.

We tutor young people in their homes, libraries, youth clubs, schools or at our JHF office or outdoor classroom, depending on the location to best suit them.

Sessions last 1-3 hours, and can also be linked to a mentoring session, before, alongside or after.
