About me
I’m originally from near Brighton but came to Bristol to go to university and have lived in the area ever since. I’m an English teacher through and through; I’ve worked in a number of secondary schools – several in North Somerset – and have taught for more years than I care to remember! My last teaching post included being a head of sixth form and was a fantastic end to a truly rewarding and enjoyable career. I took early retirement from teaching a few years ago, but really missed working with young people – which is why I can now be found happily tutoring for the JHF.
Why team JHF
As a mainstream teacher I always got great satisfaction from working on a one to one basis with young people who needed more personalised teaching, help and care. To be able to get to know, support and encourage young learners is an absolute privilege, and so when I came across the JHF and realised it chimed so closely with my own values I couldn’t wait to become involved. I really enjoy building relationships with my tutees and feel I learn something new every day.
Things I love
As you’d expect of an English teacher, I love reading. I also enjoy being part of a quiz team and like all sorts of word games and puzzles. I’m a keen supporter of my football team, Brighton and Hove Albion, and a great Saturday afternoon would be one spent cooking whilst listening to Premier League football commentary. Finally, I love planning and going on short breaks and holidays; my daughter always says I should have been a travel agent!
