Alun - Mentor

About me

I’m a 55 year old recent retiree that spent 9 months retired and drove himself crazy. I’ve spent 25 years in some HR roles with big retailers and managed to see some of the world doing it (Stockholm and Monte Carlo spring to mind), good fun but very full on. Leaving HR a few years ago I decided to do some things I’d always wanted to do but was a bit afraid to try. So, I’ve been in no particular order in the last 5 years, Postman and workplace coach, Advocate for people in care homes, Volunteer Mentor (Junction 21), HR lecturer at Bridgwater college and just recently as well as JHF I’m starting a new role as a Ceremony Officer for North Somerset Council. Karen and I have been married for 20 years and we have 2 daughters Eva and Mia who are great, sorted young people with bright futures – we are very lucky. I’m originally an Essex boy who moved to Weston-Super-Mare via the Midlands 20 years ago.

Why team JHF?

I was first attracted to the story about Jack and have spoken to JHF about a couple of roles. It just makes sense for me to put some investment into helping young people who are less fortunate than my children and making a difference in my community.

Things I love

West Ham United, Cricket, Tennis (I play at Ashcombe Park), Golf (I play at Worlebury). Paul Weller and seeing many great indie bands live (Reytons, Gallus, Stone) just recently.  I’ve got a couple of mates that I’ve known for 30 years, loyalty and fun are really important to me as are my long suffering Dad joke family. Doing the right thing is really important to me over doing things right.
