Jess - Youth Programme Lead

About me

I was born in Durban, South Africa and grew up in Zimbabwe. I am so proud to say I got the opportunity to grow up in Africa. My family moved to the UK when I was 16, settling in Portishead, North Somerset. I have two children, two naughty dogs, and lots of plants! Before I joined The JHF, I worked for a local Children’s charity.

Why team JHF?

My first introduction to The JHF was online via @FacesofClevedon. I had been looking for a change in career and when I met with Pearl, I was blown away by the commitment being made to empower their mentees and equally inspired by all the positive role models working for The JHF. After meeting some of the Mentors on an evening course, I just knew this was a special thing to be a part of and I was excited to join the team, hoping one day I would be able to make a positive impact on someone else’s life to.

Things I love

Adventurous, Creative, Spiritual, Holistic, Mindful, Challenging: these are some of the words I would use to describe the kinds of things that make me happy. I am always up to trying new things and brainstorming new ideas. I love photography, art, interior design, crafting and baking (even though I would not say I was the best baker the world has seen!) Yoga is a big part of my life and I enjoy physically challenging myself; climbing, swimming , running, I’ve even tried Aerial Hoop classes. Most of all I love spending time with likeminded people and helping others.
